That's what I like a Chicken with Attitude!!!

This is called Chicken Strut and I really like the pose....... you dare send me for chicken food!!!!

This was a really quick sketch, no drawing about 15 mins and the problem is when I do something this quickly, it leaves me thinking it can't possibly be finished in that time so am often tempted to go back in and fiddle a bit more but I quite like how this is coming along and not sure if I am going to touch again. It may need some darkening in parts, but the other thing is, have this done on the back of another and I have often wondered what happens to paintings like that where they may be saleable but there is a howler on the back?!?!?! I generally use the backs for practice but it often happens that the practice pieces look better than the main event so I probably have lots like this!!!!

So answers on a postcard!!!!  Is it ok to sell paintings with rejects on the back? What does everyone think?

  1. You will need to ask someone who actually sells paintings. LOL. Sounds OK to me.

  2. Ooooh is this from the photo I featured on PMP the other day - it is isn't it - love it and it's on my list too - it wouldnt bother me if i bought a painting with another on the back - 2 for the price of one I'd say!!!

  3. Am pleased you recognised it Sharon!!! 2 for the price of 1 is exactly what I think as well, was hoping that's what people might think..... howlers might become collectible!!!

  4. Oh Judith, I laughed loud with the title of that post! I love your the painting.
Yeap. As Sharon said, 2 for the price of 1. In art is there any other rule rather than 'enjoy while creating'? I hope not, so less worry and more fun. (I should write this on a board or on my wall, to see it every day... maybe it would do me some good and stop constantly worrying).
    A hug.

  5. Ohhhh I love it! I agree with Sharon, I'd love getting a painting with another on the back - what a fabulous surprise, as long as the one you've sold doesn't have the one on the back bleeding through and as long as you stated in your sale that it had a painting on the back (there's always going to be one person that doesn't appreciate the bargain they're getting!)

Also - this one would make gorgeous cards/postcards, you should take prints of it too *g*

    1. Looks like the Ayes are running away with it... good point Carmen - let the client know, there is a bit of a washed attempt at a cat in Jean's book on the back of this one maybe I should smarten it up bit then it really would be BOGOF!!!

  6. I think 2 for price of 1 happens because of the original howler on the back. The second one probably wouldn't have turned out so damned good if the first had have been good too - bit of progessive thinking. Just say to the potential buyers, the not so good one on the back is the inspiration for the success on the front, and your always do that for luck, and the 1st one is a good luck charm. By the way love the front - actually love all your work and probably the one on the back is not really a howler - just a hummer or a yodler.

    1. Great reply Leona, I like the idea of telling the client about the inspiration, well it's a cat so still an animal.....right!!! Also like the hummer and yodler descriptions but sadly, some are still howlers!!!

  7. I can't believe you did this in 15 minutes! You are very adept in watercolor. I've looked back, and I really like your whispy flowers too. This chicken makes me want to squawk, "Is it a plane? No, it's super chicken!!" (Sorry for that, couldn't resist.)

    1. Thanks Dan yes it was 15 minutes, sometimes I am too fast for my own good!!!But.....while it may only be 15 minutes on the paper it is a lifetime of building up to it lol!!! Like the "Super Chicken" analogy... maybe that could be a title for the next one with you credited for the creative idea..... of course!!!
